Justin is very upset that he only has one more day left of kindergarten. Crying, “I don’t want to go to first grade, I want to stay in kindergarten".He says he will miss Mrs. Simmons and all of his friends in kindergarten. (This is the total opposite of "I don't want to go to school" and some times actually having to carry him to school). Kenny and I tried to comfort him by telling him that he will see all his friends in first grade and that all his teachers will be at the school while he is in first grade. I also told him that he will have the whole summer off from school before he goes into first grade.
I have to admit I am really sad about this too. However, I am looking forward to celebrating his accomplishments with him. He is growing up so fast. Kenny and I were talking to Justin about how smart he is because I don’t think public schools were teaching kids how to read until first grade. At least that is when I remember learning how to read. The first book he read completely by himself was Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Sues. Justin can write many sentences. (The spelling is very cute, he spells better than i do). He is adding and subtracting numbers under 10. He has learned some fractions. He can count to 100 by ones, fives and tens. He amazes me every day. I know I am bragging a little (oh ok, maybe a lot!) but I am so thankful and proud, that he seems to be doing better in the first year of elementary school than I did when I was in first grade. His teachers have been wonderful. And Justin has worked very hard.
